Digitized letter features descriptions of Chattanooga in 1864. It appears to be the first letter written by George L. Young to Lottie Lasher as he asks for permission to correspond with her. Written from Chattanooga, dated February 10, 1864. He describes Lookout and Signal Mountains, also Missionary Ridge, and describes how the city's destruction which was started by the "Rebs" was completed by the Union. He says they are camped next to the Tennessee River. He includes a photograph of his "phiz" which is a colloquial shortening of the word physiognomy.
