Digitized letter from George Young to Lottie dated February 17, 1865, written from Camp of 20th Ohio Battery, Chattanooga. He says he is no longer with the ordnance office as his commander, Lt. Stokes, did not pass on his [George's] request for leave. He had expected leave on Jan. 1, then mid-January, then Feb. 1, and still has not received it. He tells Lottie that he doesn't have her new address, so he will still write her at her old address in Norwich.
(NOTE: On the back of George's letter, Lottie's sister Cassie added her own letter, not dated. Cassie passes along a lot of local gossip, and reports that in the last town meeting the Republicans lost in everything and that C. P. Rice is the new town clerk.)
