A letter from Thomas Crutchfield to his son, William Crutchfield regarding a few shirts and hogs he plans to send to William and the purchase of some lots. Thomas instructs William what to do with the lots.
The letter was folded in such a way that the back page acted as the outer envelope. The letter is addressed to Mr. William Crutchfield, Jacksonville, Ala. and is labeled "Business"
On the back of the envelope there is an inscription by Thomas Crutchfield that reads "Our hunting shirts i th (???) lots-- so th only give me to attend the any thing in the love business to present such (???)".
The envelope is postmarked Dec. 14, Athens, TN and there is a handwritten postage payment indicated by the number, 5. There are also remnants of a red wax seal used to secure the envelope.
