Digitized letter from George Young to Lottie, dated January 9, 1865. George mentions being away for the last six weeks pursuing Confederate forces in Nashville and Alabama with General George Thomas' forces. He makes note of the Confederate military items, livestock, and prisoners that were captured. He discusses the quartermaster actions that need to happen in camp before he can take furlough and expresses regret that he'll miss seeing Lottie. He replies to Lottie's question about what he did for Christmas by describing his experience cooking two geese for Christmas dinner that he got to eat by himself because his fellow soldiers were ordered away.
Pages 1 and 2 mentioned pursuing Confederates.
General George Thomas battled and defeated Lt. General John B. Hood's forces at the Battle of Franklin, November 30, 1864, and the Battle of Nashville, December 15, 1864.
