He founded Tennessee Paper Mills, Star Box and Printing Company, Stagmaier & Co. and the Archer Paper Company. Stagmaier also helped organize the Standard-Coosa-Thatcher Company, Hamilton National Bank, Pioneer Bank, Lookout Boiler Manufacturing Company, Eureka Foundry and the Tennessee River Navigation Company.
