Digitized letter from O. Cantwell to his parents, John and Re Cantwell, dated January 28, 1865. Cantwell describes the Battery's arrival in Chattanooga and their travels through Tennessee. He also describes his quarters in camp, the landmarks he can see, and how heavily fortified the town is. He mentions the general belief among the soldiers is that there will be peace "in a short time."
