Digitized letter, October 9, 1863, is written from Union Solider Lafayette McKown to his sister Sarah Jane McKown. The majority of the letter references the Battle of Chickamauga and how the Union Army took Chattanooga. He asks his sister to respond to his letters as he sent 3 while in Georgia and 5 while in Chattanooga. He spent $100.00 on a memorandum of the company he is with and sent it to his sister with no reply. He also asks her to tell mother to take fifty dollars to settle some debts. The soldier is with a Battery from Indiana.
