Collection Elsworth Brown Collection
Description This set consists of various memorabilia from Elsworth Brown's membership in historical groups, primarily the Polk County Historical Society, though there is one receipt from the East Tennessee Historical Society.

(a) is a postcard from Ethel Largent, Secretary of the Polk County Historical Society, to Elsworth Brown (no postmark) notifying him of a meeting which would take place on Sunday, March 28, 1964, at 2:30 pm in Benton, Tennessee.
(b) is a postcard from Ethel Largent to Elsworth Brown (no postmark) notifying him of a meeting which would take place on Sunday, May 9, 1964, at 2:00 pm in Benton. Additionally, she informed him that another meeting would take place on Saturday, June 5, 1964, at a time and place to be determined.
(c) is a postcard from Ethel Largent and R.E. Barclay (President) to Elsworth Brown (no postmark) notifying him of the Polk County Historical Society Annual Banquet which would take place on Saturday, May 18, 1963, at 7:30 pm. Printed crooked.
(d) is a postcard from Ethel Largent to Elsworth Brown, postmarked July 17, 1963, notifying him of a meeting which would take place on Sunday, July 21, 1963, at 3:00 pm. Printed crooked.
(e) is a postcard from Roy G. Lillard, President of the Polk County Historical Society, to Elsworth Brown (no postmark) notifying him of a meeting which would take place on Saturday, November 28, 1964, at 7:00 pm at Polk County High School (special Polk County 125th anniversary program).
(f) is a blank 1967 membership card for the Polk County Historical Society, signed by Ethel Largent.
(g) is Elsworth Brown's 1969 membership card for the Polk County Historical Society, signed by Ethel Largent.
(h) is a receipt for Elsworth Brown, dated June 11, 1957, indicating that he paid $2.00 for his 1957 membership in the East Tennessee Historical Society.
(i) is a receipt for Elsworth Brown, dated May 24, 1967, indicating that he paid $5.00 ($1.00 for a 1967 membership and $4.00 for a contribution) to the Polk County Historical Society, signed by Ethel Largent.
(j) is a check from Elsworth Brown, dated June 9, 1966, for $2.50 to the Polk County Historical Society ($1.00 for 1966 membership and $1.50 for a dinner ticket). Society Treasurer Ethel Largent endorsed the check on the back.
(k) is a note paper containing the announcement of the Polk County Historical Society Annual Banquet which would take place on Saturday, May 2, 1964, at 6:30 pm. Part of the program would involve a talk by Richard Myers on Fort Loudoun.
(l) is a sheet of paper containing a double invitation. The first part, for members of the Polk County Historical Society only, is an invitation to a picnic dinner which would take place on Saturday, June 5, 1965, at 6:30 pm. The second part, for "every Polk County citizen," is an invitation to a program which would take place on Saturday, June 5, 1965, at 7:30 pm. The program would cover both the 125th anniversary celebration and the future of Polk County.
(m) is an invitation to the Polk County Historical Society Annual Dinner which would take place on Saturday, June 18, 1966, at 7:30 pm. The price is $1.50 for the dinner and $1.00 for 1966 membership dues, and all historians are welcome.
(n) is an invitation to the Polk County Historical Society Annual Dinner which would take place on Saturday, May 27, 1967, at 7:30 pm. The price is $1.50 for the dinner and $1.00 for 1967 membership dues.
(o)(1) is a booklet containing the By-Laws of the Polk County Historical Society. The date on the cover is 1962, but the final page of the By-Laws has the dater February 25, 1963.
(o)(2) is Elsworth Brown's 1963 membership card for the Polk County Historical Society, signed by Ethel Largent.
(o)(3) is a mailing envelope addressed to Elsworth Brown at his Barton Avenue home in Chattanooga from the Polk County Historical Society in Benton, postmarked May 23, 1963. This envelope contained his copy of the By-Laws (o)(1) and his 1963 membership card (o)(2). The envelope appears to be hand-made.
(p)(1) is Elsworth Brown's 1970 membership card for the Polk County Historical Society, signed by Ethel Largent.
(p)(2) is a receipt for Elsworth Brown, dated May 16, 1970, indicating that he paid $1.00 for his 1970 membership in the Polk County Historical Society, signed by an unidentified person.
(p)(3) is a mailing envelope addressed to Elsworth Brown at his Barton Avenue home in Chattanooga from the Polk County Historical Society in Benton, postmarked May 20, 1970. This envelope contained his 1970 membership card (p)(1) and the receipt of his payment (p)(2). He made a note on the envelope in pencil which reads, "rec'd 5-21-70."
