Print from a glassplate negative. Broadside view of the packet steamboat "Joe Wheeler" in a river. The boat has an enclosed upper deck and mostly open lower deck. The lower deck and open part of the upper deck appear filled with people and goods. There are two smokestacks at the front of the boat. "Joe Wheeler" is printed on the lower deck near the paddle wheel. The land appears to slope up from the river and is mostly wooded. The image is significantly compromised around the right side edges due to damage to the glassplate negative.
The "Joe Wheeler" was a steamboat operated by the Tennessee River Navigation Company, 1898-1919.
