Photographic image of Tennessee Products and Chemical Company. The top of the photo is west - the housing subdivision on the left side of the image is south of the plant. The company later split into three separate companies, Chattanooga Coke & Chemicals (at the smoke stacks), Velsicol Chemicals (in the foreground) and Reilly Tar and later Woodward Iron and coke plant. This entire area is part of a Superfund site now because of the heavy pollution that took place from these companies for several decades - air pollution but especially water pollution from dumping into the Chattanooga Creek. The subdivision in the image is comprised East 52nd Street (the street going from top to bottom in the image), and side streets of Wilson Road, Polk Street, Fagan Street, and Usher Street. These houses were built in the late 1950s and the subdivision appears to be fairly new at the time this image was taken.
