a) Photographic image of the Lookout Oil and Refinery Company (later became Bunge Oil) at 4608 Kirkland Ave near the corner of Central Ave in Alton Park. A company known first as Tennessee Products and later as Chattanooga Coke and Chemical visible on the left. This area was declared a Superfund site in August 1997, as coal tar was dumped in the creek for decades before environmental laws were enacted. One of the primary operators of Chattanooga Coke and Chemical in the World War II years was the U.S. Department of Defense. The plant burned coal to make coke, a high-heat fuel for foundries. Coal tar is a byproduct of burning coal to make coke. This was written on the back of the original photograph: "11."
b) Similar photographic image but slightly more to the north (these images are oriented south-north).
