Description Digitized photograph of nine Union soldiers standing and sitting on top of a rock outcropping ledge, Point Lookout, that drops away precipitously to a river valley. The men are casually dressed wearing light colored pants, dark jackets, and hats of various styles. They are all situated in the same direction, looking out into the distance. One man is standing near the edge and has his right arm extended and raised to his shoulder. He is pointing in the direction they are facing.
Handwritten on back: in one hand "Phot by Geo Akin" and "Presented to Mother by J. S. Walker" in another hand.

Internet search for George Akin turned up one who served in the 24th Wisconsin Infantry which saw action at the Battle of Chickamauga and various battles around Chattanooga.
