Digitized photograph of mid-town Chattanooga, 1863, taken from an elevated perspective. The Union railroad depot is in the center of the image with a long line of railroad cars extending away from the building. It is surrounded by other commercial buildings and some churches. There are residential buildings further out. In the foreground are wooden sheds with canvas roofs, probably Union troop living quarters. In the far distance are groupings of what look to be canvas tents, possibly more Union troop quarters. In the far, far distance is Lookout Mountain. Handwritten on the bottom is "Chattanooga in 1863."
Stamped on the back: Hardie Bros., Photographers, Sunset Rock, Lookout Mountain, Tenn. with decorative embellishments above and below title.
