Handwritten on the back: Taken on Lookout, May 8th, 1870. On the pinnacle of the mt. 2000 ft above the Tenn on the right hand side of [?] as seen in the picture, lies Chattanooga, three miles away. For Julia.
Written in pencil and possibly in another hand: Observe the river curves behind and then to the left of [?] 5 or 6 mls away.
