Photographic print of students from Normal Park School (Mrs. Keyser), 1945. Some of the children are dressed in flight gear. Chattanooga Public Schools taught about aviation in all grades at this time. The back of photo is stamped "LIFE Photograph" - see Notes for more about that. Also written on the back is "6th graders helped dress up classmates in brothers' disposable equipment." The children are outside on a grassy, sloping hillside. Small section of school is visible in upper right portion of photo.
Life Magazine did an article in 1945 about how Chattanooga Public Schools taught many aspects of aviation to school children. CHC has copies of that issue in the collection. CHC does not have the originals of the photographs Life used in the magazine, but CHC does have some that were not used in the magazine, such as this image.
