Description Photograph of the production foundry at Wheland, depicts three men working on the production floor.
The foundry was established by George W. Wheland in Athens, Tennessee in 1866. Moved to Chattanooga 1873. Acquired by Gordon P. Street in 1945, closed in 2002 and demolished in 2004. Company built sawmill components, oil field drilling equipment, steam engines, anchor windlasses and automotive casings. During World War I plant produced artillery shells and guns.
