Digital scan of black and white photo from loaned photo album. This is the "Witch's Cabin" under construction in the Fairyland subdivision of Lookout Mountain, circa 1925. The L.C. Smallwood Contracting Company built many large cabins on Lookout Mountain, close to Rock City.
This neighborhood, which contained streets named after fairy tale characters, was developed by Garnet Carter in the 1920's. Trails were made around wonder rock formations, leading to a grand lookout at the top. This tourist attraction became a huge success due to the famous advertising of painting" See Rock City" on old barns throughout the USA. The cabin is located in a community called Mother Goose Village. In Mother Goose Village all the houses are named after fairytales.
