Description Photograph of "Saw mill," U.S. War Dept. General Staff, photo no. 165-C-492 in the National Archives. According to James A. Hoobler (see Related publications): "In order to build all of the structures the army needed in Chattanooga, it was first necessary to build a series of saw mills." This is a saw mill along the Tennessee River.
