Collection Tennessee Division of Water Pollution Control Collection
Description Digital images copied from original slides from the Tennessee Division of Water Pollution Control. These were taken in the Dobbs Branch area; waters that feed into the Chattanooga Creek and Tennessee River. Images show latex (white) waste. Taken on January 28, 1975. The Dobbs Branch area is around south Chattanooga not far from the Georgia-Tennessee border. It encompasses the Southside, East 23rd Street, Dodds Avenue, around the Clifton Hills and East Lake areas.

From Tennessee.gov in 2007: "Currently, seventeen streams in the Group 4 portion of the Tennessee portion of the Lower Tennessee River Watershed are known to have excessive pathogen contamination. North Market Street Branch, Friar Branch, Spring Creek, West
Chickamauga Creek, South Chickamauga Creek, Citico Creek, Dobbs Branch, Chattanooga Creek, Stringers Branch, Gillespie Springs Branch, and unnamed tributaries to South Chickamauga Creek, Citico Creek, and Chattanooga Creek are impacted by urban areas, with contributions of bacterial contamination coming from storm water runoff, sewage collection system leaks, and treatment plant operation failures originating from the Chattanooga area."
