Description Black and white photograph of students crowding around a lunch counter in a department store during the February 1960 Chattanooga sit-ins.

This photo was taken on the second day of the sit-ins. A mostly white crowd surrounded the counter. White students, many of whom had their own cars, tried to beat African-American students to the lunch counters (the Howard High School students had to ride buses). A few white students are visible sitting backward on seats and even sitting on the counter. Three African American males can be seen toward the back of the crowd. This particular photo was taken at Woolworth's.

The name "Wilson" is written on the back referring to the photographer, likely Delmont Wilson of the Chattanooga News-Free Press.
