Baker was elected to the U.S. Senate from Tennessee in 1966 and remained there until retirement in 1985. He was vice-chairman of the Senate Watergate Committee. Baker was Senate Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader and later White House Chief of Staff under President Reagan.
