Print from glassplate negative. There is a high, erroded riverbank and at the bottom of it is a short, wide wooden retaining wall. Two Caucasian men are standing on the retaining wall looking down into the river's edge. There are nine African American men working in the river, bent over shoveling. The retaining wall curves away into the distance. In the far distance, on the water, is a barge with two lifting cranes and numerous workmen on it. The surrounding land is heavily treed. The location is unknown. There is slight damage along the lower left hand edge of the image which replicates damage to the glassplate negative.
