Reverse side, handwriting: "Delta Plane crash at Lovell Field, November 1973." Stamped on back: Bob Sherrill, 4800 Madonna Ave, Chattanooga, TN, 37412. This photo shows the aftermath of the plane crash at Lovell Field in Chattanooga in 1973, and shows two firefighters surveying the wreckage. This may be the story: "On November 27, 1973, Delta Air Lines Flight 516, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9, crashed short of the runway on approach to the airport. None of the 79 passengers and crew were killed in the incident, but the aircraft was damaged beyond repair." The cause is cited as the captain's failure to arrest an excessive rate of decent after going below decision height despite two verbal warnings from the first officer.
