Digitized photograph of two men on a rock outcropping ledge, Point Lookout. One man is sitting upright with his knee bent, the other is standing near the edge with a bent leg on a higher rock. They are wearing casual clothing, dungarees and unstructured jackets, and wide brimmed hats.
Stamped on the back is an American flag on a flagpole, and "Photographed at Gallery Point Lookout, Lookout Mountain, A.D. 1864. R.M. Linn, prop'r." There also is a 3-cent George Washington tax stamp.
Stamp on back dates image to 1864, however, based on the quantity of trees in full foliage on the mountain slope it is unlikely that the photograph was taken after the fall battle in 1863. It seems more likely that the image was taken several years later after the trees had recovered from the damage sustained from the battle and wartime clearing.
