Description Photographic image of a group of girls, perhaps of the Girl Scouts, boarding the steps of an Eastern Airlines airplane (548, destination Boston) at Lovell Field in Chattanooga, TN. They could have perhaps been customers and maybe even one of the first riders of the flights out of Chattanooga on the airline, but that is only an educated guess. This could have also been a promotional type photograph for the airline when it was new in Chattanooga. The "Great Silver Fleet" was a famous fleet of DC-2 aircraft that operated on the East Coast; it was also a type plane that was not painted (hence, silver referring to the metal) because the lack of paint reduced the weight by 100 pounds.
