a) Digitized photograph, stereoscopic view of the 1867 Chattanooga flood from Point Lookout. A man is sitting at the edge of a rock outcropping, Point Lookout, and is holding a pair of binoculars to his eyes. Below a river valley is heavily flooded with only a few high ground areas above the floodwaters.
Stamped on the back: Lookout Mountain Views, Photographed and Published by J.B. Linn, Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Also lists 44 other views available for purchase.
b) Same subject as "a" but slightly different vantage point and much clearer resolution. No publisher's mark on the back but "R.M. Linn photo" is written on the back. In a different hand the following was written on the back: Flood of Chattanooga No. 1. Cameron Hill just above the hat of the person viewing [?] the scene, Chattanooga just to the right. Market Street being in the low place where the water is -- as -- piece of dry land to the right of Cameron Hill.
