Description Photographic image of a man boarding the steps of an Eastern Airlines airplane (548, destination Newark) at Lovell Field in Chattanooga, TN. The man could have perhaps been a customer and maybe even one of the first riders of the flights out of Chattanooga on the airline, but that is only an educated guess. This could have also been a promotional type photograph for the airline when it was new in Chattanooga. The "Great Silver Fleet" was a famous fleet of DC-2 aircraft that operated on the East Coast; it was also a type plane that was not painted (hence, silver referring to the metal) because the lack of paint reduced the weight by 100 pounds.
