Digitized photograph, stereoscopic view, taken from an elevated hillside, of an early settlement town along a river. There are unpaved roads, dwellings, and businesses scattered throughout the open landscape that slopes down to the river. A steamboat is docked along the shore of the river. In the center of the image is a large excavated area that has a bright surface. It is a reservoir that was established on the east side of Cameron Hill on the site of a Civil War era munition area.
On the back is a label: Views on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Published by T. H. Payne & Co., Chattanooga, Tennessee. "Chattanooga and Tennessee River: is handwritten on the label.
Image 2014.049.055 is a photo of Cameron Hill from North Shore that shows an area on the hill that could possibly become the area for the reservoir. The reservoir shows up in an 1886 lithograph map of Chattanooga but it is unknown when it was removed.
