|Object Name||Print, Photographic|
Photographic print of a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp on Lookout Mountain - Camp M.P. 5. Snow and ice are covering everything. The trees are bent down from the weight. Stamped on back of print is "Chattanooga-Lookout Mountain Park."
Lookout Mountain was home to two CCC camps - Camp Demaray and Camp Adolph Ochs. Both camps opened in October 1933 and disbanded in July 1942. Located along the eastern brow of the mountain, the men from Camp Ochs worked primarily on improving the Scenic and Ochs highways up the mountain. Camp Demaray, located on the western slopes of the mountain, supplied the labor for building the trail network of the mountain.
