|Object Name||Pin, Award|
Three jewelry items which were part of an award system for long term employees at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Chattanooga TN. They belonged to an Alma M. Schlack. She worked in the Plants Records Division of TVA for 44 years, ending in 1987. This comprises a pin, two pendants/charms, a presentation box and insert.
a) This object is a lapel type, metal, circular pin with a push-on back. It is gold tone and does have a gold content marking on the back. It measures about 1/2" in diameter, a little smaller than a dime. The front presents a small, three dimensional map of the Tennessee River and the states through which it flows. Below it are the letters "TVA". Inset are four, faceted, emerald green stones, each likely representing 5 years and indicating this to be probably a 20 year employment pin.
b) This object is a circular, metal, pendant or charm. It is gold tone and does have a gold content marking on the back. It measures about 1/2" in diameter, a little smaller than a dime. The front has been cast, top right to bottom left, with the depiction of a dam releasing white water, the letters "TVA", and a power plant, all three dimensional. The circumference is designed like the edge of a gear with tiny teeth. At the bottom is engraved "44 YEARS", Mrs. Schlack's final term of employment when she left TVA in 1987.
c) This object is a circular, metal pendant or charm. It is gold tone and bears a gold content marking on the back. It measures bout 1/2" in diameter, a little smaller than a dime. It is designed with a small map of the Tennessee River and the states through which it flows. Below that are the letters "TVA". Four, faceted, emerald green stones are mounted on the piece. As with object "a", it probably represents 20 years of service.
d) This item is a small piece of cardboard covered on one side with dark brown velvet, and folded to measure about 2" x 1 1/2". The folds allow the piece to slide securely into a small, plastic, jewelry gift box. It has three holes, one allowing for a small wire covered in white to hold an item on the top while secured underneath by masking tape.
e) This item is a simple, small, brown plastic, rectangular, hinged jewelry gift box with rounded edges, measuring about 1 1/8" x 1 7/8". Impressed onto the top in an indented rectangle appears the company name "Balfour" preceded by their logo. Two little legs at bottom rear stabilize the rounded edges to sit on a flat surface. The top swings upward to open. A strip of dark brown velvet is attached to the underside of the top to prevent any scratching of jewelry inside. At least one of the three award pieces described above must have come in this box.
