Confederate Veteran's medal. There is a gold-colored cord that is attached to a red,white and blue ribbon by a straight pin. Hanging from the ribbon is the silver-colored medal. On one side of the circular medal is stated "Re-Union of Confederate Veterans" and "Macon, GA." The medal is dated October 26, 1887. On the other side of medal is an image of Jefferson Davis and says "Jefferson Davis" and "Ex President." Also says "CSA 1861-65." The medal looks similar to a large coin.
Notes: James P. Smartt was born 11 September 1844, died 9 September 1914. He served in the 16th Tennessee Infantry, C.S.A. Smartt moved to Chattanooga in 1878. He served as historian for the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park Commission and was a charter member of the N.B. Forrest United Confederate Veterans Camp.
